Chinese artificial intelligence startup Zhipu AI launched a new AI video generator, as the country’s tech giants and startups are in a race to release text-to-video AI models similar to OpenAI’s Sora.
Zhipu’s text-to-video AI model, Ying, allows users to generate a six-second video, and it takes 30 seconds for the model to generate it, according to the company. And it is available to all users for unlimited use.
Zhipu’s move comes after Chinese online video firm Kuaishou last month unveiled its Sora-like video generator, Kling, and made it available on a trial basis. Last week, Kuaishou made Kling available to more customers and added a paid subscription service.
Zhipu, whose backers include Alibaba and Tencent, is among China’s most valuable AI startups, along with Moonshot AI, MiniMax and 01.AI. Beijing-based Zhipu, founded in 2019, is led by a group of prominent AI researchers in the computer science department of Beijing’s Tsinghua University. Its early backers include Chinese venture capital firm Qiming Venture Partners.
