Moonshot AI’s Kimi family of LLMs dropped K2 Thinking this week, which is open-source while remaining very competitive with leading American models. Relatedly, MiniMax’s recent M2 model, released in October, continues to impress. (M2 was designed for a mix of speed, price, and performance.) K2 Thinking has secured the third-place spot on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, besting Grok 4 and only losing out to GPT-5 (High) and GPT-5 Codex (High).
